What's in Your Veterinary First Aid Kit?

Video

Veterinary professionals should all have their own veterinary first aid kit ready to go at a moment's notice.

Sean Smarick, VMD, DACVECC, director of collaboration for Compassion-First Pet Hospitals, hospital director for Allegheny Veterinary Emergency Trauma & Specialty hospital, says veterinary professionals should all have their own veterinary first aid kit ready to go at a moment's notice.

Think about about what you may want to have outside of your clinic or hospital to provide first aid, Smarick says, whether for an operational canine, your own pet, or your neighbor's pet. Your veterinary first aid kit may be used to treat a range of things—from a life-threatening hemorrhage to just minor scrapes and cuts. It's better to have one and not need it, then to need it and not have one available, he says.
