Upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy is a pretty straightforward process, says Albert Jergens, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVIM (SAIM), professor at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He gives some practical tips for maximizing upper GI endoscopic examinations and biopsy of the esophagus and stomach in dogs and cats.
Dr. Jergens says if he sees a suspicious area, he prefers to obtain cytologic samples by brush cytology instead of a biopsy of the esophagus.
