Pat Smith, president of the Lyme Disease Association, explains how the Companion Animal Parasite Council collects data on the prevalence of certain parasites in the U.S. and Canada. Two different national labs provide veterinary data to the council regarding how many dogs are tested for tick borne disease agents, intestinal parasites, heartworm, and viral diseases. They believe their data only represents 30% of the geographical problem.
