Usually, the veterinarian is the reason for complications when pets are under anesthesia, says Khursheed Mama, DVM, DACVAA, professor of veterinary anesthesiology at Colorado State University. When we hear of anesthetic complications, Dr. Mama says the most common reasons are either a lack of vigilance, because everything seems to be going well; a lack of preparation; or a lack of understanding the monitoring equipment.
