Ken Drobatz, DVM, MSCE, DACVIM, DACVECC, professor of critical care at the University of Pennsylvania, talks about one study he found interesting, which showed how collaboration within the veterinary industry can increase both patient care and practice revenue.

This study in particular looked at animals with congestive heart failure (CHF) that only saw a primary care veterinarian, and animals with CHF that saw both a primary care veterinarian and a board-certified specialist. When the clinician and specialist worked together, the study found that the patient with CHF had a longer duration of survival, but also that the primary care veterinarian had greater revenue. This shows that more and more collaboration is a win for the animal, a win for the clinician, and a win for the board-certified specialist, Dr. Drobatz says.
