AVMA 2017: Treating Anxiety as a Physical Disease

Amanda Landis-Hanna, DVM, senior manager of veterinary outreach for PetSmart Charities, talks about a session she attended at the 2017 American Veterinary Medical Association Convention which discussed how veterinarians can be more empathetic to anxious patients.

The speaker of the session expressed how veterinarians need to do a better job of treating anxiety in patients as an actual physical disease and an actual physical symptom. She expressed that veterinarians should be treating anxiety first and then addressing the other problems the patient has.
