Doug Knueven, DVM, CVA, CVC, CVCH: Many times acupuncture is used along with other therapies, both Western and Eastern. For instance, the animal might be on pain medication or other medications for a medical condition, and we can add acupuncture on top of it. Or we might be using acupuncture along with Chinese herbs. Those 2 go together very nicely. Occasionally, especially if the client is requesting it, we might do just acupuncture. It’s a very flexible modality that can be used with or without other treatments.
