PRODUCT NEWS: Dechra Launches Nutraceutical for Seasonal Pet Allergies

Article

Redonyl Ultra Soft Chews contain palmitoylethanolamide—a proprietary substance that supports skin health.

Redonyl Ultra, a veterinary nutraceutical that supports healthy skin function in dogs with seasonal allergies, has been available in the European market since February. Now, the product is available in the United States under the name Redonyl Ultra Soft Chews.

This product provides allergic dogs with a concentrated source of palmitoylethanolamide (PEA)—a naturally occurring lipid compound that supports skin health.

“Due to the patents held on Redonyl Ultra, no other animal health nutraceutical can contain micronized or ultra-micronized PEA (PEA-um),” the company said in a press release.

PEA-um improves both the distribution and diffusion of PEA throughout the body, making it a much more effective substance than micronized PEA.

In an 8-week study of 160 client-owned dogs, oral PEA-um was shown to be beneficial for skin health associated with skin allergies. Only 4 dogs experienced associated reversible adverse effects.

“PEA-um appears to be effective and safe in reducing pruritus and skin lesions,” the study authors wrote, “and in improving quality of life in dogs with moderate atopic dermatitis and moderate pruritus.”

The hypoallergenic formula, which contains no wheat, beef, or chicken, can be added to a canine dermatology treatment protocol to help maintain skin health.

Redonyl Ultra Soft Chews come in 2 strengths—100 and 200 mg—and should be given to dogs based on their weight.
