The Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine is the 30th fully accredited veterinary program in the United States.

The American Veterinary Medical Association Council of Education has granted Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM) full accreditation.

“This achievement is a testament to the collaborative work of the students, faculty and staff, LMU administration and clinical partners in developing an innovative, high-quality, practical-based and student-centered program that graduates confident, career-ready veterinarians,” said LMU-CVM Vice President and Dean Jason Johnson, DVM, MS, DACT, in a press release.

The university, located in Harrogate, Tennessee, may owe its accreditation to its unique, hybrid distributive learning model that provides student with real-world, hands-on clinical experience beginning in their first semester. Students also have collaborative opportunities on research projects and One Health initiatives through the Center for Animal and Human Health in Appalachia.

Established in 2011, LMU-CVM was granted provisional accreditation in 2014. According to the university press release, its 2014 inaugural class has graduated, with 33% now practicing in the Appalachia area, including Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia, and 34% practicing in large animal or mixed animal practices.

“LMU-CVM is helping the university meet its mission of providing outstanding educational opportunities to Appalachian residents,” said LMU President Clayton Hess, PhD. “Furthermore, the college is providing service to humanity through the training of ethical veterinary doctors who will attend to the health and wellness needs of animals within rural communities, especially within the Appalachian region.”
