Hill's to Host Free 24-Hour Veterinary Symposium

Article

With a focus on treating aging pets, the 24-hour symposium will be livestreamed to attendees around the world.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition will host a 24-hour global veterinary symposium beginning April 27. The educational marathon will be held in Lisbon, Portugal and simultaneously livestreamed to interested veterinary professionals around the world. Registration is free for veterinarians, veterinary nurses and veterinary students.

“The Hill’s Global Symposium aims to inspire and educate veterinarians and veterinary health care team members to use nutrition to improve pets’ lives,” Jolle Kirpensteijn, DVM, PhD, chief professional veterinary officer at Hill’s US, said. “It is already a highlight of the global world CE calendar but, for 2018, we are taking it to a whole new level with the unique 24-hour educational livestream. This will enable us to create an opportunity for veterinarians anywhere in the world to join us for a stellar educational experience directly from the comfort of their clinic or home.”

This year’s symposium—“Adventures of Ageing: Early Chronic Kidney Disease & Growing Older”—will feature global veterinary experts speaking on an array of clinical and nonclinical topics, including nutrition myths, owner compliance, e-commerce, social media, and much more.

“With many pets living longer, we see a growing interest from veterinarians around the world in understanding the difference between ‘aging’ and ‘disease,’ and in learning more about helping their patients to age healthily,” Iveta Becvarova, DVM, MS, DACVN, director of global academic and professional affairs at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, said.

The program has been approved by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards to offer a total of 32 continuing education credits. Interested veterinary professionals and students can register on the symposium website. For each delegate who registers, either live in Lisbon or via the livestream, Hill’s will make a €1 donation (up to €10,000) to Dogs for Good, a UK-based charity that provides assistance dogs to people with physical disabilities. Following the event, the sessions will be available online from June 1, 2018 to May 31, 2019.
